“Talent is the new currency of economic development,” according to Darin M. Buelow of Deloitte Consulting LLP.

It is what enables our organizations to expand their footprint, and to service more customers. In doing so, economic growth strategies must merge industry and talent centric policies together in creative and innovated ways, to effectively engage, encourage and equip talent for short and long-term industry gains.

With nearly half of the current jobs in the U.S. requiring advanced technical skills to manage and operate technology enhancements for growing industries like advanced manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and cyber security, this only increases the supply needs for electricians, plumbers, civil engineers, nurses, and computer programmers. This month’s best practice shares the experience curated by the Sioux Falls Development Foundation for nearly 300 college graduates during the March’s Summit League basketball tournaments.

At the same time, our future growth models must involve the long-term development of K-12 students, to address significant increases in the usage of data and technology, including greater needs for analysis, automation, and AL in the workplace.   Understanding the long-term investment and planning to organically influence talent, we are sharing one organization’s clever solution and partnership with South Dakota State University to facilitate its own expansion and economic growth within the upper Midwest.

We hope you enjoy reading this month’s edition and look forward to your continued participation in our community’s talent and workforce programming event including:
