This month’s edition officially kicks off a new style of sharing more personalized perspectives for leaders within our community. Starting with Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works Administration for the City of Sioux Falls, and then Michelle Klobassa, Senior Architect for TSP, Inc., to Alex Deeter, a recent graduate of Southeast Tech and a newly hired civil technician for DGR Engineering, we dive deeper into how their interests have contributed to many community projects, such as the restoration of The State Theater on Phillips Avenue.

We are also introducing new ways for us to support your employment efforts. Over the last few weeks, the talent engagement processes for businesses has shifted from in-person to virtual meetings via webinars and other technology tools. In the process, our businesses and our educational institutions have efficiently demonstrated the ability to adapt, to be nimble and to be continually supportive of our community.

In doing so, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation has also pivoted to enhance its talent programming initiatives to solidify the connectivity between talent and employers, to employ technology to engage our future workforce, and to continually share the most current and relevant best practices for workforce with all of our community partners.

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation’s programming for April and May includes:

Talent Attraction

Through 13 virtual events in April and May, we will continue to serve the talent needs of our partners in the business community by connecting them to talented students attending our region’s post-secondary educational institutions. By hosting targeted events to virtually call together our healthcare community partners and students pursuing careers in registered nursing and skilled care to facilitating connections between manufacturing and general construction companies and qualified personnel to fill positions as engineers, technicians, and concrete pavers, we remain committed to meeting the talent needs of our community. The Sioux Falls Development Foundation will also serve our business partners in financial services who are facing an increasing need for employees to support everything from small business loans to residential mortgages.

Talent Development

In August, we are launching the Career Connections program in partnership with Forward Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Area Community Development Foundation. This community effort will support the development of 60 of our area’s motivated and talented high school students enrolled within the Sioux Falls Public School District. In the coming months, you will meet many of these individuals and will learn about the organizations supporting their development.

Recruitment Council Meetings

We dedicated our Recruitment Council’s meeting on April 9th to connecting 81 people virtually for a presentation on the “Top Five Best Practices to Motivate Your Employees Amid Social Distancing.” Joshua Neugebauer, Employee Benefit Manager for Raven Industries, and Sheri Nelson, Suicide Prevention Director for The Helpline Center, led this discussion.

  • Our next Recruitment Council meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2020, at 12:00PM.
